VEX IQ Specialist Skills Classes (Levels 1–5)

VEX Skills Program — Build, Code, Create

Over 60 weeks, students at STEAM Labs Bangkok journey from building their first robot to engineering fully autonomous machines.

Through hands-on projects, creative design, and real-world problem solving, each level of the VEX Skills Program challenges learners to think, design, and innovate.

Every project is built from scratch — students learn CAD modeling, laser cutting, and 3D printing to bring their ideas to life.
By the end, they’ll master not just robotics, but the mindset of an engineer: curious, creative, and capable.

VEX Skills 1 — Foundations of Motion

Students begin their robotics journey by exploring the fundamentals of mechanical design and movement.

They’ll discover how motors, gears, and sensors work together to create motion, learning how to assemble, test, and improve their robot builds.

The focus is on hands-on experimentation — each challenge encourages creativity and teamwork while building technical confidence.

By the end of this stage, students will understand the core principles of structure, stability, and movement in robotics.

VEX Skills 2 — Sensors and Systems

Now that their robots can move, students begin to make them think.

They’ll explore how sensors bring robots to life — detecting color, distance, and touch to make intelligent decisions.

Through guided projects, learners will design mechanisms that react to their environment and respond to real-time data.

This stage introduces basic programming logic, setting the foundation for autonomous control.

VEX Skills 3 — Engineering Design

In this phase, students step into the role of designers and problem-solvers.

They’ll learn to model components in CAD software, create custom parts with laser cutting and 3D printing, and apply design thinking to robotics challenges.

Every build becomes an opportunity to prototype, test, and refine.

By merging creativity with precision engineering, students start transforming their ideas into functional, high-performance robots.

VEX Skills 4 — Competition and Collaboration

Students now bring together their mechanical, programming, and design skills in a series of collaborative mini-challenges inspired by robotics competitions.

They’ll learn teamwork strategies, project planning, and iterative improvement — mirroring the engineering process used by real-world teams.

Robots become faster, smarter, and more reliable as students explore efficiency, accuracy, and control.

This stage is where creativity meets strategy.

VEX Skills 5 — Advanced Automation & Control

The final level challenges students to go beyond creativity — into precision engineering and intelligent automation.

Projects at this stage integrate optical sensing, motion control, and advanced programming concepts such as PID correction, allowing robots to truly think and adapt.

Students design a kinetic Ferris Wheel mechanism that responds to light and motion, linking it to a dynamic ball delivery system — a stunning showcase of mechanical design and automation.

This is the ultimate expression of what they’ve learned: design, build, sense, and control with mastery.
