On Monday 27 October 2026, STEAM Labs had the honour of welcoming SST – The School of Science and Technology to our Technology and Robotics Studio in Ekkamai, Bangkok, for a full day of specialist workshops in CAD and 3D printing, VEX EXP robotics, and xTool fabrication.
We receive many requests from schools and organisations who would like to visit STEAM Labs, and with a full weekly programme of classes and competition teams we are rarely able to say yes. SST is a school whose reputation in science and technology education is known well beyond its own community, and making room for this visit was an easy decision. Hosting them was a privilege our team took very seriously, and every workshop was planned to show not just what our machines can do, but what students can do when they are trusted with real engineering tools.
Three Workshops, One Studio
SST’s visitors rotated through three hands-on sessions, each run by STEAM Labs staff who use this equipment every week in our own programmes.
VEX EXP Robotics
Led by Arkin, Bella, Jade and June, this workshop introduced the VEX EXP platform – the system our students use when they move from VEX IQ to V5-level engineering. Visitors built, wired and programmed working robots and saw how a competition team approaches design decisions, testing and iteration.
Fusion 360 CAD and 3D Printing
Edward, Bella and Nina took visitors from a blank Fusion 360 canvas to a finished part on our Bambu Lab printers. The session covered sketching, parametric modelling and preparing a model for print – the same workflow our robotics teams use to design custom components for competition.
xTool Fabrication: MetalFab, P3 and F2 Ultra
Our xTool-trained engineers K.Kawin and K.Frank ran the fabrication workshop across three machines: the xTool MetalFab, the P3 laser cutter and the F2 Ultra. Visitors learned how specialist machinery is operated safely in a design and engineering programme, and how laser cutting, engraving and metal fabrication turn a CAD model into a real, finished product.
Taught by the Students Who Learned Here
STEAM Labs is fortunate to have a deep team of specialist staff, both full-time and part-time. What made this day particularly meaningful is that the VEX EXP and Fusion 360 workshops were delivered entirely by our senior student part-time staff – young engineers who learned on these same machines in our programmes and now teach them to others. Behind the camera, Prin photographed and filmed the whole day, capturing the images you see here.
Seeing Arkin, Bella, Jade, June, Edward and Nina stand at the front of the room and guide visitors from a school of SST’s standing through design, fabrication and robotics was a genuinely proud moment for everyone at STEAM Labs. It is exactly what this studio was built to do: give students the tools, the trust and the responsibility to become engineers – and then to become mentors.
Thank You
Our sincere thanks to SST – The School of Science and Technology for choosing STEAM Labs for this visit, and to every member of our team who made the day run so smoothly. We hope this is the first of many collaborations.
